Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium was introduced in 2011. It is additional funding given to schools so that they can support disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between them and their peers.
Schools also receive this funding for pupils whose parent or parents serve in the regular Armed Forces. In addition, pupils who have been eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) at any point in the last six years continue to attract this funding.
From 1 September 2026, the free school meals scheme will change. There will be 3 types of free school meals:
- universal infant free school meals
- targeted free school meals
- expanded free school meals
