Red class newsletter 13.09.19
Date: 13th Sep 2019 @ 7:24pm
Dear Parents,
Well, what a fabulous first full week we have had in school! The children have settled into routines well and are managing to take care of their belongings well.
We kicked off the week with their first forest school session, where we learnt some rules, explored the area and searched for living creatures. We found the oak trees and collected acorns and today we have looked carefully at these and at conkers and drawn them in our very own sketch books.
Thank you to everyone who could make this morning’s welcome assembly. The children are now all officially our ‘little pears’. It is a hard thing to do, walking in to the hall with everyone watching you. I was very proud of each and every one of them today.
Reading – we will continue to change books on a Monday and Thursday. Please keep books in bag every day. If you read with your child, please write this in so they move along the reading stars, as they seem to be really liking this. The children have all read with an adult a couple of times this week. They have shared a book together, turned the pages, looked at the pictures, searched for letters or words they might know and even had a go at reading some words.
Gardening – take a look on our school facebook for photos of gardening this week. The children have worked in small groups with Mrs Howard to make the two beds on the playground look lovely and tidy again.
We had our first P.E. session this week and all the children practised balancing bean bags on different parts of their bodies. As well as playing a range of games. They all had a good go at getting changed after too.
This afternoon Red class got to play with their buddies and get to know them a little better. It is lovely to see them all playing happily together and having lots of fun!
Writing – we write in cursive handwriting at Pear Tree and this week your child has been practising this style. We wil be sending home their name card for them to use at home next week and hopefully they will be able to show you how they do it!
Next week:
Doors will open at 8:45am for all children next week and we ask that the children come in on their own. They are doing so well at putting all their things away now and it will help speed up the process of getting the day started.
Forest school is on Monday and P.E on Tuesday – please send in kit and send school uniform in a bag again.
We will be fruit picking with our buddies on Monday and then drawing the fruit. We will also be taking the class out of school and practising on how to cross the road safely and talking about road safety.
In writing and maths we will be writing about our family photos and making our houses out of 2d shapes. Please send photos in on Monday if you haven’t already done so. I will also be continuing baselining.
My Learning Book – I’m busy entering all of your details on this site. I am having some minor issues with some accounts so for now I am just setting up one for each family. But they have an app this year, so both parents should be able to access this on your phones using the same log in. When it’s up and running I will send your slip back home with the password on. It is case sensitive so type carefully.
Other bits the children might not be telling you is – that we are doing daily stretches to help our bones and muscles develop, we are reading lots of books and learning to play a range of games too.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Newman and Red Team
