Pear Tree Pounds the Park

Attached to this week’s Newtletter is a poster (kindly designed by Mr Warbrook) and an entry form for our July 19th ‘Pear Tree Pounds the Park’ Event. We have three different courses to choose from 1.25km, 2.5km, or 5km and it promises to be a fantastically fun evening on the Barony. It will give the children a super opportunity to show off their running skills that they are developing so well with this term’s morning runs. Please encourage family and friends to join us too and help us to raise money for local charity and our school. Complete the entry form and return to school and pay the entry fees (£3.00 per child, £6.00 per adult) either using the ‘shop item’ link on School Money or send in cash or cheque and we will allocate you a space. Thanks to all the parents who have already agreed to help marshal or donate their services but we could do with lots more! More forms are also available on the school website.

Sun Policy

As the sun is making a very welcome visit, can I remind parents of the need to apply suncream in the morning before coming to school as adults in school are not able to apply suncream. We will encourage all children to:

1. Wear a named hat (and named sunglasses) in the sun;

2. Put on sunscreen (at least SPF15) before they come to school in the morning.

3. Find some shade to play under when their shadow is short.

4. Ensure that they have regular drinks throughout the day to keep hydrated.

If parents can support this with hats and water bottles all named that would be great and please don’t send suncream in to school – we have already had a number of messy leaks!

For further information see our Sun Safety and Warm Weather Policy on the school website:

Skipping Workshop

Skipping Workshop Day is just two weeks away now! On Wednesday May 24th we will be jumping and skipping all day long with long ropes and short ones! Please make sure your child has their sports kit and trainers in school that day. Parents are most welcome to come and see the demonstration at 2.45p.m. in the hall. Short ropes will be on sale after this. Children’s ropes are £4.00 each and adult ropes are £5.50. It promises to be a great day.

Well Done Year 6

Our children make us proud everyday but we must congratulate Year 6 this week. They have been outstanding during the SAT tests. They have tried their very best and been incredibly focussed and an example to all our learners about how stamina and resilience make you winners! There is a little surprise planned for them this afternoon – do ask them what happened when they get home tonight!

Fiddle toys

These are great fun but as we now have literally 100s in school of one type or another, they are prone to getting lost, caught in hair or causing arguments. We also have a great deal of cuddly creatures and masses of key rings in school, so please can all these additional items be kept and enjoyed at home.

New Starters

We have 30 new members to the Pear Tree Family all signed up to join us in September. We are really excited to be welcoming them and a coffee morning for their parents is next Monday from 9.30 to 11.00 am.

Yellow Class had a residential trip to Beeston last week. This was the first night away from home for many children but they were all very grown up. We enjoyed den building, orienteering, willow weaving and had lots of fun. Well done Yellow, you made us very proud .

As part of our ongoing Heart and Soul curriculum we will be talking PANTS next week. Talking PANTS teaches children important messages, like their body belongs to them and they should tell an adult if they're upset or worried. PANTS stands for:

P= Privates are private

A=Always remember your body belongs to you

N=No means no

T=Talk about secrets that upset you
