Red Class Newsletter Spring Term 2018

Dear Parents,

Welcome back, we hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and New Year. We are looking forward to working with you over the year. This newsletter is intended to give you a quick overview of what’s happening this term. We will give you a weekly update, which you will find on the webpage of the school website and receive an email too. Please make sure you read this information carefully every week, as we will include important timetable changes and events. If there are any important changes to the weekly schedule we will inform you with a text too.

Our learning this term

This term’s topic is called ‘Animal Magic’. We will be looking at lots of fabulous books written by Julia Donaldson for the first half term and then a range of animal books in the second half term.

Some of the books that we will be reading are: The Gruffalo, The Stickman, The Ugly Five, Smartest Giant in Town, Squash and a Squeeze, Whale and the Snail, Room on a broom, Superworm, Giraffes can’t dance, Dear Zoo, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, There’s a tiger in my garden, Oi Frog and How many legs?

We have booked a visit to Delamere, you shouls have received more details about this aready.

Parent Helpers – WE NEED YOU!!! If you are willing to give up a short space of time to support our learning or utilise your skills e.g. reading, sewing, baking in Red Class we would be really grateful. Just pop in and let us know!

P.E. and Forest School – P.E will be on every Tuesday and Forest school will take place on a Monday. You will need to send your child in with two bags, one with P.E. kit in and one with wellies and waterproofs in. These bags will stay in school until half term and we will send them home to be washed. Please NAME EVERYTHING! On a Monday your child can come in their own clothes, please make sure these are appropriate for outdoor learning.

Reading / Letters and Sounds – This has been really successful last term. So many of you are reading with your child most nights. Don’t worry about what you have to write in the diary, just write ‘read’ if needs be, just so they can get a sticker. We will be continuing to teach new letter sounds each week, these are getting particularly tricky now so I really need you to reinforce these sounds at home too.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards

Lucy Newman and Red Class team
