Red Class Newsletter Summer Term 2024

Dear Parents,

Welcome back, we hope you have all had a lovely Easter and have eaten lots of chocolate too.  This newsletter is intended to give you a quick overview of what’s happening this term.  We will give you a weekly update via an email too.  Please make sure you read this information carefully every week, as we will include important timetable changes and events.  If there are any important changes to the weekly schedule we will inform you with a text too.

Our learning this term

This term’s topic will be split into two – Under the Sea and Minibeasts.  We will be looking at lots of fabulous books written by a range of authors, fiction and non-fiction. We will be starting with a question for each - What lives under the sea? What makes a minibeast a minibeast?

Some of the books that we will be reading are: The Rainbow Fish, Shark information books, The Fish who could wish, The Bumblebear, Mad about minibeasts, Spinderella, What the ladybird heard, Tickly Octopus and lots more…

We will have an exciting new role-play this term which is a pirate boat.  We hope the children like it as much as we do!

Over the term we will read a different book each week and carry out a range of activities based on the story.  To find out more, please see our medium term plan which is on the website.

Snacks–  Please continue to send a healthy snack and a water bottle (please no juice) for morning break and please name them.

MYSTERY READER –This has continued to be extremely popular so we are continuing over the Summer Term.  List is on the classroom door but you can always email me if it is easier.  We are hoping you can come into class to do this too (fingers crossed).

Days will be Tuesday and Wednesday at 2:45-3pm.

P.E. and Forest School – P.E will be every Wednesday and Forest School will take place on a Thursday.

You will need to send your child in with wellies and waterproofs first week back.  This bag will stay in school until half term and we will send them home to be washed.  Please NAME EVERYTHING!

Please make sure clothes on a Thursday are appropriate for outdoor learning as the weather could be wet and cold or dry and hot and please don’t send your child in lace up shoes unless they can do them by themselves.  As you can imagine how much time this takes up during a day.

On a Wednesday your child can come in their own P.E clothes.

Little Wandles -  This has been really successful last term.  So many of you are reading with your child most nights.  Don’t worry about what you have to write in the diary, just write ‘read’ if needs be, just so they can get a sticker.  We will be continue to send you weekly updates of what we are teaching so you can support at home too.

.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards

Lucy Newman
