Newtletter 9th February 2017
As I write snow is forecast so please ensure if it arrives send your child/ren in with wellies and warm clothes so we can enjoy some time outside. If the school did need to close then please look on the school website and we will send a text to all parents by 8.00a.m. Rest assured this really would be the last resort as we are aware of the inconvenience this causes.
Thank you to those parents who continue to keep our children safe by parking on the pub car park or in safe places on the side of the road beyond the community centre. Please, however short of time you are, do not drop off on the road opposite the school gates or by drawing up on the road just before or after the school entrance. We have had a few near misses of late so we ask again for everyone to play a hand in keeping all our children safe. The other gate is now also coned off to try to reduce incidents.
Teach your Parents Mornings
Invitations will go out next week and were given out at parents’ evening inviting KS2 parents to a share and learn morning in your child’s class on Monday March 27th and for KS1 parents on Wednesday March 29th. Just fill in the reply slip and don’t worry, school uniform is not essential!
Our local PCSO – PC Nick Jarvis continues to do his regular drop in sessions and this week came in and spoke to the children in Blue and Indigo class about Internet Safety in this, World Internet Safety Week. Mrs Holt also came in to speak to Violet class and all staff have been highlighting the importance of using the internet safely this week.
Our Young Voices Choir are off to Manchester tomorrow to sing at the Phone 4U Arena, how exciting. Have a fabulous time.
Usborne books will be at Parents' Evening next Tuesday. You can look at them in advance by clicking into my website http://org.usbornebooksathome.co.uk/mrs-bookbox
or come and see me in the school library. You can either buy from my stock or order (so that you get brand new books). Payment is by card, cash or cheque. Look forward to meeting you.
Jane Dickinson (Independent Usborne Organiser)
Free footballs – Thank you to Mrs Carter who works for a company called Sugro. They work closely with major confectionery and soft drink suppliers and the balls were part of the Paralympics promotional material from Coke.
World Book Day

KS1 will be dressing up as a Julia Donaldson character and KS2 will be dressing up as JK Rowling characters or mythical creatures. We look forward to seeing your costumes!
Pear Tree Sports and Games
Futsal tournament – our Year 5 & 6 squad came 4th.
Year 3 & 4 Sportshall Final last Wednesday – 30 schools competed, Pear Tree made the final 7. The squad took part in a range of field and track events. They were a pleasure to take and it was commented on how high the standard was this year. We came 5th overall, which is fantastic!
Dodgeball – Pear Tree made it to the finals and played very well, we came 4th overall.
Last Monday we took two teams to a Basketball competition. This was a very exciting evening! Our year 5 & 6 team came 2nd, just missing out on the trophy and showed great skill and team effort. Our year 4 & 5 team was the youngest there, they never gave up, worked very hard and made Mrs Newman very proud. We came 5th.
High 5 – Pear Tree’s first match this season was away against Sound. We played well, despite the rain but, unfortunately, this time the score was Sound 10- Pear Tree 3.
Still to come:
We are taking some Year 3 & 4 children to Camm Street Gymnasium today. They will perform a set routine in front of judges, some as a team and some as individuals. Good Luck!
Monday 13th Feb – We have year 5 & 6 Sportshall Athletics final, we are ready to go and have been working on those baton changes #gonewts!
Thurs 16th Feb – High 5 tournament at Brine Leas 3.30-6pm
We had an assembly on Monday delivered by Keith Hancock (UK Triathlons). He talked about the first ever Kids Duathlon taking place in Nantwich on Saturday 20th May to celebrate 25 years of the Nantwich Triathlon. This is a fantastic activity to participate in - all round enjoyment and fun. The distances are not too far, parents can help in transitions, everyone gets a medal and apparently the sun always shines!
Mrs Newman will hopefully, be starting some training later in the year. We want as many Pear Tree children taking part as possible, as it is a competition between local schools. The more children joining in the better!
Please see the leaflet that came home earlier in the week and the attached poster designed by Sophie in Year 3.
