Many thanks to the very generous offer we have had to supply our Christmas tree! We are really grateful and it will be a beautiful addition to the entrance hall!

National Road Safety Week

This week we are revisiting our Green Cross Code in school and reminding all the children of the dangers roads can be if they don’t stop, look and listen. To help us and in response to the children’s comments please can I ask that you do not draw up and drop off on the double yellow lines outside of school or park in the entrance to the school driveways. We have had a number of near miss moments when parents have reversed out and narrowly missed children. We are also reminding the children to be bright and be seen during these dark winter months and to wear their helmets when cycling.

Enterprise Project

Blue Class are taking part in the Enterprise Challenge along with other schools in the Nantwich area.

Each team has formed a company, taken out a business loan and developed a product. Wednesday 29th November is Market Day, where each team will sell their wares. Prices range from 50p to a couple of pounds. Please bring in some money to spend on the stalls and support the teams. The profits are going to St Luke's Hospice.

The following week, each team will face The Dragons. A panel of local business people will scrutinise each business and drill down to the numbers. The winning team will go forwards to represent our school in the finals . . .and last year Pear Tree won.

12 Words of Winter Library Competition

Your task is to write a festive or seasonal story with just 12 words. Impossible? Look at this example: “Mr Snowman needed a cuddle, the sun agreed... now he’s a puddle”

Good luck and make every word count! Entries to be given to Mrs Boughey or a librarian by Thursday 14th December.

There will be a winner from KS1 & KS2 who will each receive a £5 book voucher.

Doodle Maths - Think of it like Piano Practice

Here are some tips on how to use DoodleMaths to its full potential.

A child could be taught the piano by Elton John on the best piano in the world, but they wouldn’t improve unless they practised daily. And DoodleMaths is no different – if it sits on your tablet gathering dust then it’s no use to anyone! But there’s overwhelming evidence that DoodleMaths boosts confidence and fluency, and raises standards. And why would it not, when you consider that children using DoodleMaths for 10 minutes daily, 5 days a week, 50 weeks per year will typically answer 5000* questions in those 12 months – all of them tailored to their exact level, strengths and weaknesses.

Please encourage your child to 'doodle' everyday, just 10 minutes completed regularly makes a huge difference. There's also a times table app now that can be downloaded from the App store to work alongside the original app, no need for a new password just download and get started. Little and often is the key to success!

Reminders please

  •   Return your child’s photograph order

  •   If you think you may be eligible for free school meals please phone 0300 123 5012

  •   Check regularly for headlice

  •   If your child has had an upset stomach please keep then at home for 48 hours

Pear Tree Sports - #Newmans Newts

Football News - Pear Tree dominated the semi-final game but could only manage a 2-2 draw against Wybunbury and unfortunately lost on sudden death penalties. They then played for 3rd and 4th position against Stapeley Broad Lane and managed a convincing victory 2-0 which left us in 3rd position overall. Very proud teacher! Also well don't to the rest of the squad for this season’s football. A new trial will be held in January and we will start a new league.

Huge congratulations to our gymnastics squad. Every single competitor did their best and showed super effort whilst completing their routines. It must be tough performing in front of lots of people and a judge. But they all got on with it and showed great team effort too! We even ended up taking a bronze medal for our 'team' and got silver for Daisy. Well done everyone and thanks to the adults involved in helping with this event. (Mrs Sturdy, Mr Arnold, Mrs Degg)

Our huge squad of 40 children have been busy practising over the last couple of weeks for sportshall athletics competition which is this Friday at BLHS 3:45-6pm. We want to wish you all the best of luck - run like the wind Newts!
